Robert "Bob" E. Mathews

Robert "Bob" E. Mathews Jr., 80, of Garrettsville, passed away peacefully at the Arbors at Streetsboro Sunday morning, October 2nd, 2016. He was born in Parkersburg, WV on March 28th, 1936 to the late Robert and Margaret (Hoffman) Mathews Sr. Bob later married Jackie Leach in March 1960.

He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Theater from Marietta College and then a Master's Degree of Divinity from the Theological Seminary in Indiana. While attending the Theological Seminary, Bob worked with Job Corps. He faithfully served as Minister for 40 years between churches in Marietta, OH, Sharon, OH, Proctor, WV, Benton, PA, Youngstown, OH, and Bristolville, OH. In 1970, Bob began serving as the annual guest Minister at the Disciples House, Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, NY. Bob loved spending his summers in Chautauqua.

Bob was actively involved with the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theater in Marietta and also an avid Marietta College baseball fan where he loved to sit behind home plate and heckle opposing teams. Bob also had an impeccable sense of humor and was well known for his poor jokes. He was truly loved by all as he blessed every one he met.

He will be deeply missed. He is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years, Jackie; children, Scott Mathews, Chris (Melissa) Mathews, Shawn Mathews, Beth (Scott) Girasia; grandchildren, Devin, Ben, Kayleigh, Christopher II, Molly, Lauren; brother, David M. Remaley; and many friends. Bob is preceded in death by: his parents and brother, Steven Remaley.
