Shirley Ann (Weckesser) Caskey

Shirley Ann Caskey (nee Weckesser), 89, of Rome Twp, OH, passed away peacefully Monday evening, April 7th, 2025 at home while surrounded by her family. She was born in Orrville, OH on September 25th, 1935 to the late Earnest J. and Leona (Cleaver) Weckesser. Shirley later married her best friend and love of her life, David J. Caskey Sr. on April 17th, 1954.

Her favorite thing to do was to go shopping. Shirley also enjoyed fishing, going out to eat, taking rides and playing bingo as well as spending time with her family. She loved spending time on her family’s pontoon boat on Pymatuning Lake.

Shirley and Dave spent many winters in Arizona with their two daughters where they liked going gold prospecting and camping. She collected many rocks and enjoyed going on hikes in the desert.

She raised four children and worked several jobs throughout her life which included J.C. Penney, the local school cafeteria, and care centers.  

Shirley will be missed by: her loving husband of just under 71 years, David; children, Gale (Michael) Cumberledge, Vicki (Dennis) Sweihart, Janeen (Larry T.) Caskey, David (JoAnn) Caskey Jr., 9 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, William (Sue) Weckesser, sisters, Virginia Weckesser and Eleanor (Donald) Wright; her cherished pet companion of the last 15 years, Lady; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents and brother, Howard Weckesser.
