Richard I. Godfrey

Richard I. Godfrey, 91, of Newbury, OH, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, 2026, at his home. He was born in Warren, OH on March 5th, 1935, to the late Murrel and Elsie (Dalton) Godfrey.   

A master craftsman, Richard enjoyed woodworking projects of all kinds, especially repairing grandfather clocks. He also loved attending auctions, fishing, and working as a backyard mechanic, often repairing cars. Richard was always willing to help anyone in need, but his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Richard will be greatly missed by: his children, Rose Johnson, Judy Rubes, Richard (Tammy) Godrey; grandchildren, Anthony Bland, David (Kim) Rubes, Brian Rubes, Crystal Rubes, Samantha (Logan) Jobes, Kaitlyn Godfrey, Calvin Godfrey; great-grandchildren, Khloe, Tony, Vinny, Jack, Donnie, Curtis; brother, Milton (Barbara) Godfrey; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; great-granddaughter, Karli; and brothers, James Godfrey, Murrel Godfrey, Michael Godfrey.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:30 PM, THURSDAY, JULY 23RD, 2026 AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 10AM until the time of the service. Richard’s final resting place will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Warren, Ohio.
