Okeylene "Okie" Hopkins Obituary

Okeylene "Okie" Hopkins (nee Hunt), 76, of Middlefield, OH, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, September 24th, 2025 at UH-Geauga Medical Center. She was born in Pikeville, KY on December 12th, 1948 to the late James and Mae (Norman) Hunt. Okie is once again reunited with her loving husband, Keith
A. Hopkins, who died September 16th, 2023.

She was a devoted mother, loving mother-in-law, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. Her heart was as generous as it was kind. She had a gift for making everyone feel special and deeply loved, always going above and beyond to help anyone in need.

Her love for her family was boundless. She adored her children and siblings with all her heart, and she absolutely delighted in spoiling her grandchildren. Spreading joy with Christmas presents and made sure she sent out cards for every celebrations. Whether through thoughtful gestures or warm hugs, she made sure her family felt treasured every single day.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening and decorating for every holiday with unmatched enthusiasm. Her home was always filled with the comforting scent of homemade treats and the sparkle of seasonal cheer. She loved curling up with romance novels and watching her favorite old western and murder mystery TV shows. She loves shopping for her loved ones, always thinking of others before herself.

Her dedication to service was extraordinary. She graduated from the Ashtabula County Police Academy in April 1984 and proudly served as Jefferson’s first village policewoman, paving the way for future generations. Her passion for helping others never faded. At the age of 55, she earned her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Lakeland Community College in 2003, continuing her mission of care until her retirement in 2020. 

Her life was a beautiful blend of strength, compassion, and unwavering love. A legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Okie was a very dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by: her children, Diana Dalton, Michael (Kelly) Miller, E. Wayne Miller, David (Heather Weatherbee) Miller, Matt (Holly) Hopkins, Kevin (Mona) Hopkins; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy (Rhonda) Hunt, sisters, Nadine DiSantis, Alfie Sinclair, Debbie Hunt, Minerva Steward; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Keith; brother, James Hunt; and sister, Erma Hunt.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED 4-8 P.M., THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2ND, 2025 AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH 44062.
Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M., Friday, October 3rd at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Kruse officiating.
