Nels P. Petersen

Nels P. Petersen, 72, of Chardon, OH, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, September 15th, 2026, at home while surrounded by his family. He was born in Chardon, OH on July 10th, 1954, to the late Phillip and Marilyn (Crislip) Petersen. In 1985, Nels met his best friend and love of his life, Karyn (Masek) Petersen.

Nels was a hardworking, strong-willed, and intelligent man who could do just about anything he put his mind to. A true jack of all trades, he had a knack for fixing, building, and problem-solving. There was very little he couldn’t do. Nels enjoyed the simple comforts of home. He could often be found watching his favorite western shows, enjoying an ice-cold Pepsi, or working on his latest project.  His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and everyday moments shared by those who loved him.

Nels will be greatly missed by: his loving wife of 40 years, Karyn; daughters, Kimberly (Nick) Massaro, Tina (Donald Wojtila) Petersen, Denise Petersen; grandchildren, Nathan Petersen Jr., Donald Wojtila Jr., Jonathan Massaro, Lucianna Wojtila; brother, James (Linda) Petersen; sister, Dee (Mark) Lehmann; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Jason Petersen and Nathan Petersen; and sister, Mardy Regal.

Per Nels’ wishes, a private gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date.
