Martha R. (Hosey) May

Martha R. “Gramma Marty” May (nee Hosey), 89, of Huntsburg, passed away peacefully in her daughters arms Thursday afternoon, May 27th, 2021 at the Ohman Family Living at Blossom. She was born in West Virginia on July 12th, 1931 to the late Clarence and Theresa (Crawford) Hosey. Martha is once again reunited with her loving husband, Robert E. May, who died December 3rd, 1997.

When Marty was little, her favorite thing to do was talk. She could carry on a conversation with any adult. Her nickname as a child was Radio Mike. She turned on her voice every morning and continued until she fell asleep. She always loved a good debate.

Marty lived a rough childhood, but stayed strong. She loved to sing and sang with a band and one night while on stage, she noticed this tall curly black-haired cutie walk in the door. Little did Marty know the young man, Robert, was making a comment to his cousin that he would marry that girl on stage singing one day. The rest was history as they quickly became each other’s love of their lives. Robert married his big brown-eyed fire cracker on the Fourth of July and she married the man that would change her life.

Marty’s good life was filled with heartache when her first born passed away at age 13. Though she knew that her daughter was both her and Robert’s, Marty also believed that she was God’s child and it was her time to go home. She never blamed God for anything and she taught her girls to do the same.

She was a housewife and a Mommy, and she loved her life. Every day you could find her at home working hard to keep her castle perfect for her family. She was a routine person. Once she was done cleaning inside, she would venture outside where she would be found with her broom and hose. Her rose bushes were out of this world, which earned her the most beautiful backyard in her neighborhood contest. Marty was proud and everyone knew it.

In the evenings, she would prepare supper for her family and anyone else who would like a bite to eat. Often with her specialty meals with her homemade sauces like cabbage rolls, potato salad, meatloaf with tomato gravy and so much more. Family supper always ended with great conversation and laughs. After dinner, Marty would always hand wash the dishes, sweep the floor, and close the kitchen. She even loved giving out popsicles to every child in the neighborhood that already ate their suppers.

Marty is dancing with Robert and holding her daughter, Hollie, once again. Their love for each other taught many to stay strong and she will be dearly missed by: her daughters, Joyce (Larry) Benesh, Donna (Robert) English; grandchildren, Michael (Nicollett) Benesh, Hollie (Jonathan) Dawson; great-grandchildren, Rebekah Dawson. Jon Michael Dawson. Hannah Benesh. Grace Dawson. Hallie Benesh. Abigail Dawson. Olivia Dawson. Michael Benesh Jr., Brooklynn Dawson; step-brother, Jessie Hosey; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; loving husband, Robert; daughter, Hollie Jean May; step-brother, Clarence Hosey; and sisters, Berneice Lancaster and Jeannie Lewis. FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED FROM 3 P.M. UNTIL THE TIME OF THE FUNERAL SERVICE AT 7 P.M., TUESDAY, JUNE 1ST, 2021 AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH 44062. A private committal service will be held on Wednesday at Harvard Grove Cemetery in Cleveland.
