Marjorie W (Willcox) Townsend

Marjorie Willcox Townsend, 95, of Windsor, OH, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 31st, 2024 at her home. She was born in Columbus, OH on September 23rd, 1928 to the late Clarence P. and Marjorie (Smith) Willcox. Marjorie is once again reunited with her loving husband, Norman Townsend, who died in November 1994.  

She grew up in Columbus and graduated from Bexley High School. Marjorie then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Math from Denison University followed by a Master’s Degree in Education from Case Western Reserve. She taught math at East Tech High School in Cleveland, and Grand Valley Middle School.

Marjorie was a long time activist for peace and social justice, beginning with her work for womens’ rights and to end the war in Vietnam. After moving to the farm and raising hogs, she became involved in food and farm justice issues with the Rural Coalition, the National Family Farm Coalition, and Ohio Farmers Union. She was also a strong and early supporter of the InterReligious Task Force on Central America of Cleveland. Marjorie was also an active member of the First Congregational UCC of Jefferson.

She was a very dedicated and loving mother who leaves behind to mourn her loss: children, Marjorie L. Townsend, George (Liz) Townsend, Peter (Cindy) Townsend; grandchildren Olivia, Bryce, Gillian, Jaret, and Lily, and many friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents and husband, Norman.

A PRIVATE GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE HELD AT A LATE DATE. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s memory are requested to be made to Windsor Fire and Rescue, 5360 Rte 322, Windsor, OH 44099.
