In loving and heartfelt memory of Larry “Skip” R. Yoder, 73, of Middlefield, Ohio, whose quiet but compassionate spirit warmed the hearts of all who knew him. He was born as one of nine children to Roman and Mary (Gingerich) Yoder on January 25th, 1951. On September 1st, 2024, Skip passed peacefully into eternal glory with his Lord and Savior.
Skip grew up in Middlefield and Parkman, Ohio. He graduated from Cardinal High School in 1969. Living his whole life in the Geauga community meant that Skip certainly knew most everyone in the area and also most everyone’s business! He loved to reminisce and laugh about days gone by with his droll and waggish sense of humor. Those who were close to him weren’t fooled by his seemingly gruff exterior but saw straight though to his deeply caring marshmallow soul.
Skip served for two years in Voluntary Service in Louisville, Kentucky. He then picked up his father’s trade and became a Master Craftsman. Both Skip and Roman took great pride in this. He ultimately retired from Tim Yoder Construction after working many years creating stunning, handcrafted architectural woodwork.
For 15 years, Skip coached a men’s softball team. It’s where he earned his nickname that he carried throughout his life. In 1995, Skip and his brothers too a fishing trip to Alaska. He also made a mean pot of oyster stew.
After retiring, Skip drove several dear Amish friends and he formed many lasting relationships with them. He cherished each and every one, and as for family, we are so grateful for all of you. You are beloved. Skip also helped in caring for his parents in their later years.
Skip is survived by: his siblings, Sally Brechbill, Mim (Dan) Itschner, John Yoder, Mary Jane (Paul) Risko, Tim (Kara) Yoder, Annette (Jim) Pavlic, Jeannette (Richard) Turk, Susan McCreary; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; brothers-in-law, Jim Brechbill and Sam McCreary; nephews, James Pavlic, Joshua Yoder, and Tyler Yoder; and niece, Angela Miller.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE AT 3 P.M., WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2024 AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH 44062 with Pastor Roger Kruse officiating. Family and friends will be received from 1 P.M. until the time of the service. Skip’s final resting place will be in Overlook Cemetery, Parkman, OH.
