John J. Merlino Obituary

John J. Merlino, 85, of Middlefield (formerly of North Bloomfield), OH, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, March 11th, 2024 at Ohman Family Living at Briar. He was born in Warren, OH on May 16th, 1938 to the late John and Margaret (Mullen) Merlino.  

John loved operating backhoes and dozers and had his own excavating business for years. He loved Farmall tractors and had owned the same Farmall H since he was in his late teens. John loved farming and raising cows and pigs. He loved going to the local diners and having coffee and pie with friends.

John was a dedicated and loving father, grandfather, and friend to everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed by: his children, DeeAnna (Dwayne) Culbertson, Timothy (Christina) Merlino, John (Lori) Merlino, Matt (Simeon) Merlino, Amy (Keith Blackshere) Merlino, James (Sarah) Merlino, Jennifer (Adam) Smart; grandchildren, Timothy (Alysha) Merlino Jr., Audrey (Nick) Kish, Kyle Culbertson, Becca Merlino, Joey (Barbara Coblentz) Culbertson, Tyler (Nicole Anderson) Merlino, Nicole Merlino, Karisten Blackshere, Kaden Blackshere, Colton Merlino, Matty Merlino, Violet Smart, Dwight Merlino, Tula Smart; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Merlino, Thomas Merlino, Kenny Merlino, Vito Merlino; sister, Jill Parnell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. John was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Merlino, Nick Merlino, Albert Merlino, and Buddy Merlino. 

Per John’s wishes, a private gathering of family will be held at a later date.
