John A. “The Fiddle Man” Mast, 85, of Middlefield, OH, went home to be with The Lord on the morning of Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. He was born in Warren, OH on March 2nd, 1936 to the late Andy J. and Mary (Weaver) Mast. John later married the love of his life, Geri McGranahan, on April 28th, 1959.
John wasn’t a flashy man. He enjoyed the simpler things in life. The most important aspects of his life were: family, faith, fiddlin’, and fishin’. As a self-taught musician, he won the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to hear him play. People would line up to speak with him after shows, and he would stay and speak with everyone who wanted to chat. He was “kind of a big deal” in the bluegrass scene, but he was also incredibly humble and never would have acknowledged his status. John also loved to tinker with, and fly, model airplanes.
While he greatly enjoyed his hobbies, his true passion was spending time with his family and friends. He loved to meet his friends for breakfast almost daily. If you frequent Cinda’s restaurant, you’ve likely met him and maybe even unknowingly sat at “his” table. John’s greatest joy of all, though, came from spending time with his wife, Geri. While he never stumbled upon the elusive Stradivarius he was hoping to find, he found something better in Geri. She was his entire world, his greatest treasure.
John will be missed dearly by: his loving wife of 62 years, Geri; children, John Mast Jr., Debbie (Michael) Albright, Carol (Mark) Rodriguez, William (Jeannie) Mast, Robert (Sarah) Mast, Jeff (Alicia) Mast, Lesa Mast, Theresa Mullins; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Liz Miller; and many many friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; daughter-in-law, Marcia Mast; and 5 sisters.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE.
