James "Jim" R. Winter Obituary

James “Jim” R. Winter, 73, of Nelson Township, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning, April 22, 2026. He was born in Medina, Ohio, on September 12, 1952, to the late Robert A. and Dorothy J. (Cantwell) Winter.

On April 25, 1996, Jim married his best friend and the love of his life, Linda Vonderau‑McMillen, with whom he shared 30 years of devotion, partnership, and laughter.

Jim lived a full and adventurous life. As a teenager, he was a proud member of a water ski club in Sandusky and was skilled enough to jump the ramp—something he loved to reminisce about. He played center on his high school football team and carried that same strength and determination throughout his life. Jim was one of the original free‑spirited hippies, with a love for darts, the outdoors, and the open road. He once hiked cross‑country—from Ohio to California, then down to Florida—before eventually returning home to Ohio. Above all, Jim was a genuinely good man, known for his kindness, humor, and the ease with which he connected with people.

Jim will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Linda; his step‑sons, Wayne (Meghan) McMillen, Wyatt (Crisse) McMillen, and Waylin (Colleen) McMillen; his step‑grandchildren, Jessica, Max, Celeste, Molly, Bradley, Aiden, and Ashley; his great‑grandchildren, Michael, JuJu, and Mia; his sisters, Diane (Steve) Reese and Nancy (Frank) Bevacqua; as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives were brightened by knowing him.

Per Jim’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
