Harley J. Richards

Harley J. Richards, 92, of Newbury, OH, passed away peacefully Monday night, February 2nd, 2026 at UH-Geauga Medical Center. He was born in Cleveland, OH on December 26th, 1933, to the late David and Lillian (Fry) Richards. Harley is once again reunited with his loving wife, Carol “Faye” Richards, and cherished daughter, Dawn Richards.

Harley was a man of sharp suits, deep mischief, and an even deeper heart. A proud veteran of the Korean War, he carried a sense of duty and discipline that defined his life, whether he was serving his
country or working as the sharpest-dressed salesman at Sears, Ray Niebes Chevrolet, and Lawson Ford Mercury. During his decade at Newbury Industries, Harley's daily routine of walking home for lunch, was always exciting for his grandchildren who would wait along the path just to greet him.
Whether he was acting as "Motorhome Captain," snowmobiling, or dancing with memorable dance moves, he brought an infectious energy to everything he did.

He grew up an expert swimmer in Lake Aquilla and spent his best summers surrounded by family at Tom and Alice’s pool. He was the ultimate competitor—everything was a contest to be won, and he could often be found coaching from the sidelines or acting as a line judge at family sporting events. His hands were as busy as his wit. In 1970, Harley built his family home by hand alongside his brother-in-law, Tom. 

After retiring, his love of projects continued and he was always the first to volunteer for any family home project or to mow a lawn. Harley was a legendary prankster, especially when teamed up with his
brothers-in-law, Tom and Ray. He always had that jokester spirit especially around Cutty’s Campground campfires, but maintained one very strict rule: nobody touches the hair. 

Harley's love outside of his family consisted of the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and a heart for animals, often caring for and taking in cats and dogs that needed a home. Harley’s quirks were his signature. He had a "mad scientist" approach to the kitchen, he could be found cooking with Coffee-mate and dousing everything in hot sauce, though nothing satisfied him quite like a Mr. Hero
Romanburger. 

Throughout his entire life he always had a childlike love for Christmas; On Christmas morning he would be found, waiting for the crack of dawn to wake the kids and start the festivities. Above all, Harley was a family man. He was an honorary grandpa to many, but nothing made him beam with more pride than when he finally added the title "Great" and "Great-Great" to his name upon becoming both a great-grandfather and a great-great-grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and a reminder to always play to win.

Harley will be greatly missed by his daughter, Renee Richards; son, David (Alice) Richards; grandchildren, Amy (Shawn) Chamberlin, Jennifer (Frank) Corrao, and Monica Richards; great-grandchildren Kai Hoversland, Emily (Noah) Secrest, Logyn Chamberlin, Azure (Brandon) Kromka; Isabella (Evan) Knipp, Rylee Chamberlin, Frank Corrao IV, and Ari Shepherd; great-great grandchildren Charlotte Knipp and Jace Knipp; Brother, Brian Richards and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; loving wife, Carol “Faye”; daughter Dawn; and brother, Trevern Richards.
