Gregory J. Young, 56 years, of Chardon, OH passed away after a brief illness at his home on Wednesday afternoon, February 17th, 2021. He was born in Sharon, PA on June 13th, 1964 to William J. and Barbara A. (Bauer) Young.
Greg was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served on the USS Ortolan, a submarine rescue ship. He was aboard the ship during the time it spent recovering artifacts from the Titanic. Greg was stationed in Pensacola, FL and also at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during his service.
After leaving the Navy, Greg lived in Western Pennsylvania before relocating to Chardon, where he lived for more than 15 years. He was a kind man who held various jobs in the community, truly enjoyed spending time with his close friends, and helped his neighbors by walking their dogs and assisting whenever there was a need.
Greg enjoyed computers and was adept at fixing and tinkering with anything mechanical. He liked to read, watch movies, and help his neighbors at his apartment complex by organizing the community bulletin board.
Greg will be dearly missed by his mother, Barbara A. Young; brothers, Jeffrey W. Young and Joel E. Young; sisters, Jean E. Nobel and Judith A. Erford; and his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Young.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE. Greg will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.
