Elizabeth (Byler) Kontur

Elizabeth Kontur, 82 of Middlefield, Ohio, passed away on December 31, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 7, 1942 to the late Daniel J. and Martha Byler.

She will be remembered as mom, grandma, mimi, sister and friend to all those who were blessed to know her. A homemaker most of her life, Elizabeth later enjoyed working in the kitchen at Briar Hill Nursing Home. She loved with abandon and her kind, fun-loving spirit will live on in the countless memories and stories shared and treasured by her large family. She was infamous for her amazing pies and family gatherings will never be the same without a table full of them.

Elizabeth loved playing Yahtzee with her friends, cheering on the Cleveland Guardians, spring flowers, feeding and watching birds, weekend girls trips with her daughters, granddaughters and friends and family reunion vacations. She also cherished the many friends she made at Lakeview Village and her Christ Covenant Church family.

Survivors include her children: Phil Kontur, Sandy Walker, Ronald (Kim) Kontur, Donna Kontur, Kathryn (Scott) Adams, Linda (Patrick) O'Hara, Sally (Jim) Riebe, Susan (Alan) Hassa, Miranda Kontur and Rhonda (Neil) Garvin; grandchildren: Robert (Julie) Miller, Sheila (Danny) Grant, Michelle (Mike) Hoover, Don (Donna) Slife, Virginia Slife, Aaron Kontur, Brittany (Jon Slabe) Kumher, Justin Adams, Derek (Sabrena Franko) Adams, Tyler (Emily Shantery) Adams, Trevor Adams, Austin (Avila Gyorki) Adams, Isaiah (Sami Butler) Adams, Hayley (Trent) Dysert, Nicholas O'Hara, Samantha O'Hara, Sophia O'Hara, Chase Kontur, Ryan Riebe, Sara (Jared Simon) Riebe, Faith (McCall) Key, Jordan Haley, Dorian Kontur, Kendra (Jacob Gladwell) Garvin, Cole (Emily Spadafore) Garvin, Danika Garvin and Zander Garvin. Her twelve great-grandchildren were very dear to her and she loved being called "Mimi" by Troy, Brandon, Kylie, Maggie, Adelyn, Harper, Nora, Oliver, Lyric, Fern, Rowan and Juniper. She is also survived by her siblings: David Byler, Barbara Troyer, Dan Byler, William Byler, Martha (Freeman) Mullet and brother-in-law: Urie Byler.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Philip L. Kontur; daughter: Lora, daughter-in-law: Barb Kontur, sons-in-law: Glen Walker and Barry Haley; granddaughter: Elizabeth; brothers: Rueben (Mary Ann) Byler, Jiggs (Mary) Byler; sister: Ida Byler; sisters-in-law: Alma Byler, Catherine Byler and Sara Byler and brother-in-law: Melvin Troyer.

Family and friends will be received from 3–5 PM, Monday, January 6th, 2025 at Christ Covenant Church, 16406 Kinsman Rd., Middlefield, OH 44062. A Funeral Service will follow at 5 PM with Pastor Mike Southern officiating. Elizabeth will have a private interment in Middlefield Cemetery.
