Axel Morris, 14 years, 4 months, of Chardon, Ohio crossed the Rainbow Bridge Monday, January 27th, 2025.
This was a day we knew was coming, yet there still is an overwhelming sense of sadness. Our big, goofy Golden Retriever has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
He was born on Sept 19, 2010. He wasn’t even 6 weeks old when we brought that fat little ball of yellow fluff into our home. We named him Axel (we eventually discovered that when we were calling for him that Axel sounds very much like Asshole, but he was very far from that). Some people would say he was just a pet, but to us he was family.
Axel loved treats; running in the woods; rolling in the snow; playing hide-n-seek with the kids; brushing his teeth every day (we would tell him that girl dogs like boy dogs with nice teeth); squeaky toys; stalking & attacking cattails at the pond; carrying his own leash on walks; and being told that he was a handsome boy.
He hated car rides; toys with eyes (he always had to rip those off); suitcases (because that meant someone was leaving); and blueberries.
Axel was our therapist and was there for us when we lost Michael and my parents. He gave each of us what we needed - a listening ear, a head to scratch, and a 2am walking companion. He loved each of us so much during his 14+ years of life that he wore out his big old heart. Axel died here at the house, peacefully in his sleep on January 27, 2025 while I laid next to him and held his paw. I told him that he was the best boy and that it was time to go find Daddy so they could walk in endless woods and that he could finally meet his Golden predecessors, Barnum & Bailey.
Axel was a big furry boy and his fluff will likely remain in our house, in our car and on our clothes for a long, long time. He will remain in our hearts and our memories forever.
