Amos Gingerich Obituary

Amos Gingerich, 85, of Middlefield, OH, entered eternal rest Wednesday afternoon, December 25th, 2024 at home while surrounded by his family. He was born in Claridon, OH on May 27th, 1939 to the late Amos A. and Ida (Yoder) Gingerich.

He was part of a big family being one of 11 children. (7 boys. Melbern, Owen, Allen, Bill, Abe, Paul and himself. 4 girls. Ada, Susan, Barb and Ruth) This large family lost their earthly father at a young age which brought them stronger together and pushed forward with their loving mother.

Amos later married Mary Hostetler on October 28th, 1961. He began working at Burton Manufacturing and then Sohio in Middlefield as a Certified Mechanic. When opportunity presented itself, he rented a building in Burton and started his own full service Sohio. Later moving his business to Newbury under the rebranded name of BP that had bought out Sohio. Upon retirement he went to work for Middlefield Village where he mowed grass and maintained the local ballfields that his grandchildren got to play on.

He was never one to shy from hard work or challenges, but push forward. Amos loved God and all His creation. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and all Cleveland sports. Amos and Mary further enjoyed traveling across the country with their great friends, the Humphrey’s and Westover’s.

Amos will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; sons, Steve (Missy), Scott (Pam), Roger (Cathie); grandchildren oldest to youngest. Chelsea (Karmella), Derek, Alyssa (Amber), Troy, Kendal (Jordyn), Justin, Ethan. His brother, Paul Gingerich; sisters, Ada, Susan, Barbara, and Ruth;

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Melbern, Owen, Allen, Bill, and Abe.

Amos loved family, friends, people and laughter. And sought to carry joy wherever God and life took him. He modeled agape love and service. As most of you here probably know, Amos spent the past 5 years in bed, non-verbal with continued care. But a strong will to keep him at home with his beloved wife was only accomplished by the grace of God and His creation coming together. The family is very greatful and would like to thank all the family, friends, neighbors, hospice, and University Hospital for all the great care, love and support during this difficult time.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED FROM 9:00-11:00 AM., TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31ST, 2024 AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH 44062. Funeral Services will be follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Nick Spurgeon officiating. Amos’ final resting place will be in Middlefield Cemetery.
