Melvin R. Byler, 70, of Middlefield Twp, passed away suddenly while enjoying the beautiful scenery during a peaceful walk through Swine Creek Reservation, Friday evening, August 3rd, 2018. He was born in Middlefield, OH on May 15th, 1948 to Reuben L. and Clara N. (Detweiler) Byler. Melvin later married Mary Ellen Mullet on March 5th, 1970. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church where he was became an ordained Minister October 7th, 1989. Melvin then became the Bishop of the North Old State District on October 17, 1999.
He will be greatly missed by: his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ellen; his parents, Reuben and Clara; children, Betty (Noah Jr.) Troyer, Barbara (Jonas) Miller, Marie (Freeman) Fisher, Mervin (Kathleen) Byler, Fanny Mae (Nelson) Stutzman, Laura (Chester Jr.) Byler, Melvin (Susie) Byler Jr., Linda (Norman) Miller; 53 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 8 brothers; 3 sisters; 2 brother-in-laws; and 3 sister-in-laws. Melvin is preceded in death by his in-laws, John H. and Fanny H. (Kuhns) Mullet; grandson, Timothy M. Byler; and 1 brother-in-law.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 9:30 A.M., MONDAY, AUGUST 6TH, 2018 AT 16118 OLD STATE RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH with Bishop Eli Yoder officiating. Pallbearers will be David Miller, Bill Stutzman, Paul Yoder, and Noah Miller Jr. Visitation will be anytime until the time of the service at 16125 Old State Rd., Middlefield, OH. Melvin’s final resting place will be in Yoder Cemetery, Parkman, OH.
