James “George” Nishizaki, 93, of Middlefield, OH passed away peacefully at Briar Hill Health Care Residence Tuesday afternoon, December 11th, 2018 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was surrounded by his family. George was born in Menlo Park, CA on February 9th, 1925 to the late Genjiro and Emo (Nishizaka) Nishizaki. He is once again reunited with his loving wife of 53 years, Ernestine (Berghammer), who died September 19th, 2001.
After graduating Sacramento High School in 1941, George along with his siblings, were interned to the Tule Lake Japanese-American Internment Camp. Following his release, he worked on the railroad in Spokane, WA before moving to Cleveland. George enlisted into the Army in 1944 and served in Germany during the final months of WWII until being honorably discharged in 1948. He retired from Baker Material & Handling and Precision Metalsmiths, Inc.
George will be deeply missed by: children, Kurt (Mary) Nishizaki, Denise (Greg) Papson; daughter-in-law, Deborah Della Savia; grandchildren, David Nishizaki, Shelley Covert, Katie DeLuca, and Kayla, Sydney, and Olin Nishizaki; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Nolan Covert; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Ernestine; son, Steven Nishizaki; half-brother, Eddie Yoneda; brother, Hank Nishizaki; and sister, Marry Nishizaki.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE HELD AT 1:00 P.M., SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16TH, 2018, AT ORCHARD HILLS CENTER BANQUET HALL (PATTERSON FRUIT FARM), 11414 CAVES RD., CHESTERLAND, OH 44026. Family and friends will be received from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service. A luncheon and continued fellowship will follow the service.
