Donald D. Gatrell, 79, of Parkman Twp, passed away at his home Wednesday, February 27th, 2019. He was born in Alma, WV, on January 12th, 1940 to the late Orve E. and Zell (Booher) Gatrell. Don is once again reunited with his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis C. (Fuller) Gatrell, who passed away February 2nd, 2019.
He was a retired Engineer from Mercury Plastics. Don enjoyed all sports, both playing and watching, especially the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians. He was a letterman of Windham High School’s basketball team, played on numerous leagues including bowling, golf, softball, baseball, and served as an OHSAA Baseball Umpire for 20 years. Don also enjoyed visiting family in West Virginia, woodworking, and building handcrafted clocks for many family and friends. In addition, The Hot Dog Shoppe in Warren was a life-long favorite eatery and being a part of the Garrettsville/Windham group who met at Cal’s Restaurant in Garrettsville, which was a favorite of his golden years.
Don will be greatly missed by: daughter, Patty (Leonard) Hall; son, Don R. (Nicole) Gatrell; grandchildren, Jeffery Hall, Jeremy Hall, Joshua (Stephanie) Hall; sister, Doris Mae Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son Jerald M. Gatrell; grandson, Alec D. Gatrell; brothers, Charles Ankrom, Carl Spencer, Ralph Gatrell, Robert Gatrell; sister, Edith Buchanan; and infant sister, Gertrude Gatrell.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL WILL BE HELD AT 10:30 AM., MONDAY, MARCH 4TH, 2019 AT ST. AMBROSE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 10692 FREEDOM ST., GARRETTSVILLE, OH 44231. Please meet at the Church. Family and friends will be received from 1-4 P.M., Sunday, March 3rd, 2019 at Best Funeral Home, 15809 Madison Rd., Middlefield. Don’s final resting place will be next to Phyllis in Overlook Cemetery, Parkman.
