David Glenn Staib, 90, of Parkman, Ohio died peacefully, Thursday morning, September 14th, 2017, at University Hospitals Cleveland with family at his bedside.

David was born September 11, 1927 in Akron, Ohio in the home that his father built on Lover’s Lane. Early in life his father moved the family to Mesopotamia, Ohio where David helped his father establish a farm-machinery business. David graduated from Mesopotamia High School in 1945 and Hiram College in 1951. In the Army from 1951 to 1953, David served in the Korean conflict. On June 12, 1955 he married the love of his life, Paula Cone (also a high school teacher) of Parkman.

Following earning his teaching certificate and Masters of Education from Kent State University, David was employed as a school teacher and spent his entire career, 31 years, at West Geauga High School in Chesterland, Ohio. David was a member of the Western Reserve Masonic Lodge #507 in West Farmington, Ohio, and Crescent Chapter #7 OES, Garrettesville, Ohio.

His summers were spent traveling the United States with Paula and their children in tow, and after retiring, David and Paula continued to explore the US together in their RV, always returning to Parkman.

David was an avid reader, but two of his great joys were his vegetable garden and just being outside, where he enjoyed puttering around his property, fixing this and building that in and around the house that he built in 1959, with a project “always in the works.”

He was quick with a tease and loved to watch the reaction; he had a twinkle in his eye and a smirk waiting.

David was preceded in death by his father, Carl J. Staib, and mother, Dorothea Grace Staib, and his three sisters, Carol Bates, Virginia Allen, and Margaret Shaw.

David is survived by his wife, Paula; their son, Erich Staib, and wife, Kecia, (of Cary, North Carolina) and grandchildren Eryn Staib and Kate Staib; and their daughter, Karla Staib White, and husband, Jim, (of Ravenna, Ohio) and grandchildren Amber (husband Zeke) Hamilton, and Ethan White; plus two great-grandchildren, Vaughn and Mason Hamilton.

At the wishes of David, Paula, and immediate family, there will be no formal service. A family celebration of his life is planned for July 2018.
